What’s New in iOS 10 Beta 3

Apple recently seeded the third developer beta of iOS 10, the software that’s set to have a public launch later this year.

As is typical for a major release’s beta builds, Apple continuously tweaks, adds, and sometimes removes aspects of the software as it works on improving the experience. Seeding the third developer beta is no different, as a series of new features, alterations, and more have been discovered.

The new discoveries are listed below, and we’ll be adding to the list as the day progresses and new features are discovered.

What’s New in iOS 10 Beta 3

Health

In the Health app, there is a new “Improve Activity” option, which allows users to send anonymous data back to Apple, which is focused on health-related aspects. The new features can be found within Settings, and then tapping on Privacy, and then Diagnostics & Usage. Opening up the Health app in iOS 10 for the first time will also send up a pop-up notification asking users if they want to enable it or not.

Locking a Device

In the third developer beta for iOS 10, locking an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus will evoke a small haptic vibration signaling the device has indeed been locked. If using another device, there’s a new audible notification when pressing the Power button.

Keyboard Sounds

There is a muted popping-style keyboard sound that was introduced in the first developer beta of iOS 10, but was subsequently removed in the second developer beta. The feature has made a return in the third developer beta.

Siri and Apps

Users of the third developer beta will find a new “App Support” section under Siri’s settings. In this, users will be able to see which apps work with Siri, and which apps access your data in doing so.

Touch ID

Apple has added a new Accessibility option in the third developer beta for iOS 10 that will allow users to unlock and access an iPhone with just having their finger on the Home button, and not having to press the button to do the same. Which, of course, isn’t entirely new, considering it worked like this with the launch of iOS 9. Still, a welcome re-addition, probably.

Quick Actions

Hard-pressing on an app icon will now bring up a share option for that app, and it will also include the app’s name — something that wasn’t included in the second developer seed of iOS 10.

Audio Feedback

The third developer beta of iOS 10 fixes an issue where audio playback using the iPhone’s speaker would stop when there was haptic feedback.
